One Object After Another is a 240-page artist book by Cherine Fahd, published by Brown Paper and commissioned for Cementa24. Developed through residencies in Kandos and in close collaboration with Kandos Museum volunteers and local residents, the project responds to the museum’s idiosyncratic collection of industrial relics, community objects and everyday things.
The book brings together photographs and text to consider how local history is held in objects, through use, storage, memory, touch and description. Moving through the collection one object at a time, Fahd connects the museum’s industrial past with the more intimate material life of the town. Captions move between fact, association and speculation, allowing each object to carry several histories at once.
The publication extends the broader project, which included the video and sound work Roll Call and 56 street posters installed throughout Kandos during Cementa24.
