Street posters installed in the town of Kandos for Cementa Festival 2024
As part of One Object After Another, 56 street posters were installed across Kandos during Cementa Festival 2024. This website shows a small selection from the larger series. The posters extended the project beyond Kandos Museum and into the everyday spaces of the town, appearing on shopfronts, the local library returns box, outside the Kandos Hotel, the local radio station KRR 98.7FM, the post office, the gallery and the charity shop.
The posters drew from the museum’s collection and local school photographs, placing images of Kandos back into public circulation. Installed in the streets, they created moments of recognition as residents encountered familiar faces, places and histories while moving through the town. In one instance, local resident Sonya Jenkins spotted her father as a five-year-old boy in a 1948 school photograph. Now in his eighties, he had been returned to the streets of Kandos as a child.
The poster series connected the museum archive to living memory, making local history visible outside the institution and folding it back into the daily life of the town.
